B4BC - End of the first week
Here we are on Jan. 8th. I had training for most of the week which limited how much birds I could look for. My backyard only yielded a few species, many of the same.
But just before lunch I was able to get 4 beautiful HOODED MERGANSER. It's my favorite duck-like bird (tied with Wood Duck). It was in the Callegues creek near my house and golf course.
On the way to my parents house I stopped by Lake Sherwood and got some year birds:
There's been a BALD EAGLE around Lake Sherwood since Jan. 1st (found by Dave P). Hearing it initially from the fire station making it's high-pitched warning call. Then saw it briefly being harassed by ravens as it retreated to the fields.
This location is also consistent for PURPLE FINCH which isn't very easy to find at low elevations in this area, so it was good to tick that off the list.
No real photos ready from today. I was emotionally distraught with some other work and health issues with close family, so the camera didn't come out really.
Tomorrow (Sunday) I hope to go for the summer tanager, some shore birds or maybe my annual Cal Gnatcatcher or Cactus Wren in it's expected spot just over the hill.
